Grants

Purpose

To assist, through limited financial assistance, with programs and events that will promote the sport of darts in Alberta by:

  • Increasing awareness at the grassroots and youth player levels
  • Increasing player performance at grassroots, youth and elite player levels
  • Increasing membership
  • Increasing the number of certified officials
  • Increasing the number of certified coaches
  • Initiating new funding programs
  • Initiating volunteer recognition programs

Who can Apply?

Any member may apply for a Programs Grant or individual grant.

Application Deadlines

There are no application deadlines for Program Grants, but applicants should be aware that funding is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Should funding not be available within a specific funding cycle, consideration of those applications will be given priority during the next funding cycle.

Applications for individual grants must be received no later than 30 days prior to the championship or course.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a completed and signed (or electronically submitted) Grant Program Application Form to the DA Administrator.

Program/Event Eligibility & Criteria

In order for a Grant application to be approved, the written application must meet the above required and the following criteria must be met:

  • The proposed program or event cannot be in conflict with the Objectives, as outlined in the DA Constitution, and
  • The proposed program or event must be open to any Alberta resident eligible to possess a DA membership, unless the program or event is designed to increase awareness or player performance at a specific player level, and

The proposed program must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Have potential to increase individual membership within Darts Alberta
  • Have potential to increase Member League membership within Darts Alberta
  • Have potential of increasing DA funding by initiating new funding programs
  • Increase the number of certified DA or NDFC Tournament Officials (Referees)
  • Increase the number of certified Coaches for the sport of darts
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase grassroots competitor participation in the sport
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase intermediate competitor participation in the sport
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase youth competitor participation in the sport
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase aboriginal competitor participation in the sport
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase women competitor participation in the sport
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase senior competitor participation in the sport
  • Increase awareness or have the potential to increase disabled competitor participation in the sport
  • Have the potential of increasing the player performance of youth competitors
  • Have the potential of increasing the player performance of grassroots competitors
  • Have the potential of increasing the player performance of intermediate competitors
  • Have the potential of increasing the player performance of elite competitors
  • Promote volunteer recognition within the sport of darts

Level of Support

The maximum Program Grant awarded to any applicant will not normally exceed $2,500.00 and will not normally be in excess of 25% of their eligible direct operating expenses. Grants will be considered in support of direct operating costs that may include, but not be limited to:

  • Facility and/or equipment rentals
  • Printing 
  • Publicity 
  • Volunteer recognition functions and awards 
  • A percentage of prize money to encourage participation at a specific player level

A portion of an approved Programs Grant may be disbursed in advance of the program or event, at the discretion of the Grants Sub-Committee.

Funds for individual grants are disbursed after the individual has returned from the tournament or course and has submitted their competition standings or course results.

Terms and Conditions

Applications are evaluated by the Senior Executive Committee and Program Grant approval will be considered on the following program priority: 

  • The extent of which the program or event promotes awareness of DA and the sport of darts to non-members.
  • The extent of which the program or event encourage participation at a specific player level.
  • The extent to which the program of event brings provincial, national or international awareness and recognition to the sport of darts.
  • The evidence of volunteer support relative to the scope of the event.
  • The number of potential participants in the event or program.

The Senior Executive Committee's decision is final and binding. The applicant must ensure that all publicity of the program or event advertises that DA and the ASRPWF have provided funding toward the project or event.

The Committee, at its discretion, may specify additional terms as part of the application approval, including interim reporting requirements for long-term programs.
