Introduction to Officiating Workshop
Darts Alberta created this Introduction to Officiating through respect of several tournament organizers outside of Alberta. The program is generic and suitable for any involved in planning, organizing and running tournaments. Whether you've been organizing tournaments already or completely new to dart tournament organization, the program will give you a general understanding and provide information on where to find information specific to your province.
This Introduction to Officiating course is only offered as an eLearning workshop, which you can take at your own pace, regarding of your location.
It is important to know that this is not a required course for those wishing to take the NDFC Level 2 Officiating Program, but it will provide an excellent base of knowledge that is likely to contribute to you being more successful when taking the NDFC Course.
Albertans are encouraged to take the Darts Alberta Officiating Certification - Level 1, as it provides detailed information specific to Alberta's ranking system and events.
The Introduction to Officiating course is provided in a competency-based modularized learning format, consisting of the following:

- Tournament Sponsorship
- Introduction to Safety
- Provincial Ranked Tournaments
- Provincial Championships
- NDFC Ranked Tournaments
- Introduction to NDFC Rules
- Drawsheets and Seeding
- Tournament Formats
Course Fee: $60.00—under development
Darts Alberta Officiating Workshop – Level I
The objective of this program is to train officiators (referees) for the sport of darts by providing a general overview of various aspects of planning, organizing and running tournaments. Whether you've been organizing tournaments already or completely new to dart tournament organization, the program offers a wealth of information.
The Level I Officiating course is now primarily offered as an eLearning workshop. Whether you are in Edmonton, Calgary or the far corners of the province, you can take this workshop on line, at your own pace.
This course is a prerequisite for Darts Alberta members should they wish to apply for grant funding to participate in the Level 2 Officiating Program at the Nationals.
The course content is the same as the Introduction to Officiating, but with Alberta specific information.
Course Fee: $40.00 for DA members | $60.00 for non-members
Darts Alberta Officiating Accreditation
To become a Darts Alberta Trained Official, an individual must successfully complete the Darts Alberta Officiating Workshop – Level I course and exercises after each module.
To become a fully certified Darts Alberta Official, a trained official must complete some type of practicum or mentorship. There are a variety of ways this can be done:
- Run a league event with mentorship provided by a Certified Level 1 or Level 2 Officiator
- Assist in running a tournament organized by a Certified Level 1 or Level 2 Officiator
- Participate in the formal practicum of the NDFC Level 2 Officiating during the Youth or Adult Nationals
NDFC Level II Officiating Accreditation
DA Trained or Certified Level I Officials may choose to further their skills and experience by participating in the NDFC Level II Certification Program offered through the NDFC. This is offered as a self-study correspondence course, combined with completing a course exam and participate in a practicum during the Youth or Adult Nationals.
